ABOUT

Rev. K.C. Van Atta-Casebier

Rev. K.C. Van Atta-Casebier (they/them) has served as an Associate Pastor and Director of Family Ministries at Foundry United Methodist Church since January of 2020.

They find their passion at the intersections of LGBTQIA+ advocacy, the work of anti-racism, education, and family life. K.C. believes that young people are the leaders of today — not tomorrow — and works tirelessly to give kids and youth opportunities for full participation and leadership in the church and the community. In return, the youth make fun of their southern accent.

K.C. is from Nashville, TN, and spent significant portions of their life in both Montevallo, AL and Martin, TN. They received a B.A. from Trevecca Nazarene University where they majored in Religion and Biology with minors in both Youth Ministry and Genetics. K.C. also played four years of collegiate basketball at Trevecca. In 2019, K.C. graduated summa cum laude from Duke Divinity School.

A lifelong Methodist who has served in ministry for over ten years, they were commissioned as a provisional Deacon in the Tennessee Conference of the UMC in 2019.

In their present role as Director of Family Ministries, they oversee five ministry teams working in four areas of ministry - kids, youth, parents, and generations (a space for Foundry's intergenerational ministries). K.C. also hosts a popular parenting podcast called “The AutoParent Podcast,” which seeks to offer solidarity and hope to folx on the parenting journey.

K.C. is the founder and former Executive Director of Forward Movement TN, an organization which existed to create brave spaces of hope for ecumenical/reconciling worship and the work of anti-racism. Their previous appointment was at Rehoboth UMC in Gallatin, TN, where they were the Pastor of Christian Formation.

Prior to that, K.C. served as the Youth Pastor at Family Community Church in Brentwood, TN. They also worked in corporate accounting for the Kroger corporation, and as the Director of Residence Life and Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, KY.

K.C. loves basketball (Go Duke!), books, barbecue, good music, and spending time with family. They currently live in Alexandria, VA with their spouse Greg, children Kash and Riggs, and teacup chihuahua Zion.
